Michael Dean Gibbs
On November 13, 2013, Michael Dean Gibbs was diagnosed with ALS at the age of 41. This insidious disease took Michaels's ability to walk, talk, eat, and use his hands, and it eventually took his life. Until the very end, Michael smiled in the face of adversity and faced his disease with courage, grace, and humor.
Throughout his life, Michael was the definition of a giver. He loved sharing gifts during the holidays and seeing others react positively. Most importantly, he gave the gift of love and laughter to those around him, especially to his nieces and nephews, to whom he also provided an abundance of wisdom.
Michael was also inspired by the world around him. He was known for his intellectual curiosity and love of learning. Michael marveled at nature, especially trees. He also loved art and photography, which motivated him and allowed him to express himself. He was also an athlete, playing basketball as a child and golf as an adult. In fact, mere-months before ALS took his ability to move, Michael scored a hole-in-one.
